Ten Things I Learned From My Late Father

It’s the first anniversary since my Dad passed away.

  1. Treat Everyone with respect.

I remember an incident when our ex-car driver came to visit my Dad and I made him stand while he waited for my father to arrive. As soon as My father saw the ex-employee asked him to sit and ordered me to get a cup of coffee for him. After the ex-driver left, I asked my dad naively why he was respecting a measly driver and my father scolded me emphasizing how everyone should be treated with respect.

2. Don’t be afraid when the truth is on your side.

Whether we are working or for whoever we are working we should always remember that when truth is on our side there is no need to fear. No need to fear your manager or your employer when the facts are on your side. Stride ahead with confidence when you are right and even question people.

3. Family comes first.

My Dad never worried about saving money and accumulating wealth. He always preferred to put family first. My parents spent all their earnings on educating their children. We explored several parts of India together as a family and those memories far outweigh any wealth.

4. Let your children be independent thinkers.

My dad never insisted on me believing in the same things he believed or forced me to perform any Hindu rituals. He let me be. He let me think for myself and make decisions myself when it came to matters of religion and…
